Frontyard Inc. (“Frontyard,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) is committed to protecting your privacy. Frontyard is an app that passively tracks your time outside and shows your progress toward a daily goal. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, share, and protect your information when you use our website, mobile app, and related services (collectively, the “Services”).

The short version: Frontyard only works out whether you’re outdoors. Your exact location never leaves your phone. Two things do: the Known Places you choose to save, and a coarse area used to look up the UV where you are.

1. Information We Collect

a. Information You Provide

Your account: you sign in with Apple or Google, which gives us your email address (or the private relay address Apple gives us, if you choose to hide yours). You also choose a username.
Your daily goal and your settings, such as whether goal reminders are on.
Known Places you save — places like home or work that the app always treats as indoors. Each one has the name you give it, its position and its size.
Corrections you make to your outdoor sessions: dismissing one, moving where one started or ended, or adding one the app missed.
Samples you choose to send, telling the app whether you’re actually indoors or outdoors at that moment.
Feedback, suggestions, or messages you send us by email or through the app.

b. Information Collected Automatically

Location, while you allow it. The app checks about once a minute whether you’re outdoors, using your phone’s location and other sensors. What happens to that location is set out in section 2.
Outdoor sessions. Each stretch of outdoor time the app records — when it started and ended, how sure the app was, and the UV that was in the air while you were out. Sessions carry no location.
Device type, operating system, app version, and how you use the app (see section 10).

2. What Stays on Your Phone, and What Leaves It

Your phone keeps a week of where it has been. Each check the app makes saves your phone’s position to a location trail on your phone, so you can open a past session and see on a map where it happened. The location trail never leaves your phone: it isn’t uploaded, synced, or backed up, and it is deleted as it passes a week old. You can delete all of it at any time from Configuration → Clear location trail.

Known Places you save are stored with your account. Their names, positions and sizes are kept on our servers so they survive a reinstall or a new phone, and only your account can read them. Nothing saves a Known Place for you: you place, size and name each one yourself.

UV. To show the UV that was in the air during your outdoor time, a coarse area, rounded from your position on your phone, is sent to look up the UV for that area. The area covers roughly a metro region, not a street or a building. We never store that area with your account, your device, or your sessions. The UV figure for each session is worked out on your phone, and only that figure is saved with the session.

Outdoor sessions, your goal, your settings and your corrections are saved with your account, so your history is there on any phone you sign in on.

3. Helping Improve Detection

Frontyard learns to tell indoors from outdoors better over time. Three things can help it, and each one is described in the app where you control it.

Session corrections. When you dismiss a session, move where one started or ended, or add one the app missed, we receive the sensor readings the detector ran on for the minutes you corrected, and nothing else. Because the readings that explain a session include the minutes leading into it, those are sent too. A session you leave alone sends nothing, and these readings never include where you were. This is on by default. You can turn it off in Configuration; turning it off stops collection straight away, clears what is held on your phone, and deletes the records already collected. Records are kept for 12 months.

Diagnostics. Diagnostics is off unless you turn it on. While it is on, every check the app makes sends a record of what its sensors read and what it decided. It never records where you are — only how near you were to a Known Place you saved yourself. Records are kept for 90 days. Turning Diagnostics off stops collection straight away and deletes the records already collected.

Samples you choose to send are kept as examples of indoor and outdoor readings. They carry no location.

We use these records only to explain and improve how the app detects time outside. Records already used to train the app’s detector can’t be taken back out of it, even after the records themselves are deleted.

4. How We Use Your Information

We use the data we collect to:

Work out when you’re outside, and show your outdoor time, your progress toward your goal, and the UV that was in the air while you were out
Send goal reminders (see section 5)
Keep your history, goal and Known Places with your account
Operate, improve, and secure the Services, including making detection more accurate (see section 3)
Communicate with you (app updates, account issues, etc.)
Process subscriptions and manage access (see section 8)
Use anonymized or aggregated insights for internal business and product development

5. Goal Reminders

Goal reminders are decided on your phone, using the same outdoor time the app shows you. They are scheduled as notifications on your phone, so no server decides when to send one or sees your progress to do it. You only get them while your phone is tracking and you have access to Frontyard. You can turn them off in Configuration, or turn off notifications for Frontyard in your phone’s settings.

6. Feedback & User Suggestions

Any feedback, ideas, feature requests, or suggestions you submit — whether in-app, by email, or during testing — may be used, implemented, or commercialized by Frontyard without obligation or compensation. By providing such input, you waive any claim to intellectual property rights in it.

7. Ownership of Frontyard Content

All content created by Frontyard, including but not limited to our logos, designs, layout, and visual identity, are the exclusive property of Frontyard Inc. You may not use, replicate, or distribute this content without written permission.

8. Subscription & Payments

Frontyard is a paid subscription. You subscribe through the Apple App Store or Google Play, and we use RevenueCat to manage subscriptions: it tells us whether your account has an active subscription or trial. RevenueCat receives your account ID, your email address and your username, and the store tells it about your purchases.

The free trial is the store’s offer: its length, and whether you are still eligible for one, are set by the store. We may also give selected people complimentary access, with no charge and no store subscription.

We do not store payment information — payments are processed by Apple or Google. Your subscription is managed or canceled through the store you bought it from.

9. Account Creation and Security

You need an account to use Frontyard. Keep access to the Apple or Google account you sign in with secure.
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate our terms.

We never sell your personal data. We share it only with:

Trusted vendors who help operate our Services, for that purpose only:
- Supabase, which hosts our database and your account
- RevenueCat, which manages subscriptions (see section 8)
- PostHog, our analytics provider. The app sends PostHog your account ID, your email address, and events about how you use the app, such as opening it, finishing setup or correcting a session. These events carry no location.
- OneSignal, our push notification provider, which receives your account ID
- Netlify, which hosts our website
Apple and Google, when you sign in with them or subscribe through their stores
Law enforcement or regulators when required by law

We may share aggregated, anonymized data (e.g., usage stats) for product or research purposes.

11. This Website

This section covers www.frontyardinc.com.

Analytics, with no cookies. We use PostHog to count page visits and taps on the store badges. It is set up to store nothing on your device: no cookies, no local storage. A visit can’t be linked to your next one, which is why there is no cookie banner.
No advertising. There are no advertising pixels, such as the Meta Pixel, and no ad tracking on this site.
The Store Door. Every store badge goes through the Store Door at www.frontyardinc.com/get, which sends you to the App Store or Google Play. Each time, it records to PostHog: which store you were sent to, which kind of device your browser reported, which badge you used, the campaign tags in the link you followed (such as utm_source), the page that sent you, and the country and region your connection comes from. The country and region come from our host, Netlify, at the time of the request; your IP address is not part of the record.
Your connection. Like any website, Netlify and PostHog receive your IP address and browser details when your browser connects to them.

12. Your Rights and Choices

You can:

Edit your username, goal and Known Places in the app
Clear the location trail on your phone (Configuration → Clear location trail)
Turn session corrections, Diagnostics and goal reminders on or off (Configuration)
Delete your account and your data from the app (Configuration → Delete account)
Request access to or deletion of your data
Adjust location and notification permissions in your device settings

13. Children’s Privacy

Frontyard is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from minors. If you believe a child has provided personal information, please contact us so we can remove it.

14. DISPUTE RESOLUTION

You agree that any dispute, claim, or controversy arising out of or relating to this Privacy Policy or the use of our Website or services shall be resolved by binding arbitration administered by JAMS, conducted in Austin, Texas. You expressly waive the right to file a lawsuit in court or to participate in a class action or representative action.

EACH PARTY AGREES TO RESOLVE DISPUTES ON AN INDIVIDUAL BASIS AND WAIVES ANY RIGHT TO BRING CLAIMS AS A PLAINTIFF OR CLASS MEMBER IN ANY PURPORTED CLASS OR REPRESENTATIVE ACTION OR PROCEEDING. The arbitrator may not consolidate more than one person’s claims and may not otherwise preside over any form of a class or representative proceeding.

The arbitration will be conducted by a single arbitrator, and each party shall be responsible for their own attorneys’ fees. This provision shall survive the termination of this Privacy Policy and your relationship with Frontyard Inc.

15. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes via email or in-app notification. Continued use of the Services after changes are posted means you accept the revised policy.
